Follow-up Hands-on Exercises

For those seeking additional hands-on practice, after reading the Novell NetWare 6.5 CNA Exam Cram2, chapter-by-chapter exercises are provided. These exercises provide broad-stoke directions. Use the procedures detailed in the Novell NetWare 6.5 CNA Exam Cram2 to complete the exercises.

Hands-on Exercises

1. Install NetWare 6.5 on a new server creating a new tree. Use the NetWare 6.5 SP2 Overlay CDs for this installation. Configure the server with a 500 MB DOS Partition, a 4 GB SYS volume, a 4 GB DATA volume in a DATA pool. Leave at least 1 GB of free space on one of your hard disks. Install the following optional components:
   • Apache2 Web Server and Tomcat 4 Servlet Container
   • iPrint
   • Novell DNS/DHCP Services
   • Novell iFolder
   • Novell NetStorage
   • Open SSH
   • eGuide
   • Novell iManager 2.0
   • Novell Virtual Office Framework
2. Assign the server an IP address that is compatible with your environment. During the installation Create a new tree, for example the NW65_Tree, with an Organization object, for example O=NW65, and an Organizational Unit, for example OU=Certification. Install your licenses using iManager, and Configure Role Based Services so that you become the Collection Owner.
3. Install the Novell Client on your Windows 2000/XP Professional workstation. Use Client 4.90 SP1 or above.
4. Login to your new server.
5. Create a parent directory, called Users on the DATA volume, using Remote Manager.
6. Using Remote Manager, create an APPS pool and and an APPS volume in the APPS pool-make the APPS pool 200 MB. Mount the volume. Assign the Pool/Volume User Space Restrictions, and Compression. Then create three parent directories in the APPS volume-WORD, SS, DB.
7. Using Remote Manager create a new Traditional Partition and Volume. Name the Volume TRAD1 and give it a size of 250 MB. Mount the volume.
8. At the Server Console, display your mounted volumes, your OS version, your configuration, your protocols, your search path, and the version number of your DS.NLM. Then display the SLP Services, and the Help screen.
9. From your workstation, create a Virtual Office Team and look at the Team home page.
10. Using iManager Create a Group object called Students.
11. Using iManager, Create a Template object, and assign it an path to your Users home directory on the DATA volume, and make all users members of Students.
12. Using iManager, Create 4 users, 2 using the Template object, and 2 without the Template object. After you create them, look at your Users directory and see how many new directories have been created in it.
13. View the members of the Students group and see how many members you have.
14. Create an Organizational Role object. Assign the two users who were not members of Students as occupants to the Organizational Role.
15. Using your workstation browser, launch eGuide and search for all members.
16. Using your workstation browser, launch iMonitor and see how many partitions and replicas exist in your tree.
17. Launch the OpenSSH Manager from your browser and start Open SSH on your server.
18. Edit the Autoexec.ncf and unRem the statement that launches RCONAG6. Provide a password for RCONAG6.
19. Install ConsoleOne on your workstation and launch it. You may have to download all available snap-ins from Novell's download site. Once you launch C1, display your tree. View the properties of the LDAP_Group object and see if you are using port 389 or 636.
20. Create a Container Login Script that includes the NO_DEFAULT statement, a Search statement to the Public directory, and a regular network drive mapping to your home directory.
21. Give one of the users you created in steps 12 and 13 RF rights to the APPS:\WORD directory. Create a file called TEST.TXT in WORD and assign it a Ro attribute.
22. Create a subdirectory in SS called Payroll. Create a file in Payroll called Checks.txt. Assign the Payroll directory an IRF of SR F. Assign one of the users you created in steps 12 and 13 RWCEMFA to the SS directory. Check the users effective rights in Checks.txt.
23. Flag all files in the SYS:System directory RW. Then using Flag change them all back to Ro. Check the Trustees of SS using the Rights /T command.
24. Using iManager give one of the users you created in steps 12 and 13 Supervisor object rights to your OU, Certification OU for example.
25. Check the users effective rights to a leaf object in the OU.
26. Load the Screensaver on the server.
27. Configure Intruder Lockout on your OU.
28. Create an NDPS Broker, Manager, Agent and Gateway and load your Broker and Manager. Configure your printer for iPrint and your OU for RPM distribution.
29. Install the iPrint client on your workstation.
30. Access Maptool.htm from your workstation and install your printer on the map. Save it.
31. Launch the iFolder Management Console and enable two iFolder users.
32. Install the iFolder Client on your workstation. Place several files in your iFolder desktop folder and synchronize them with your iFolder server. Check the folder on your server to see if it synchronized correctly.
33. Configure iFolder Client Policies to Save the Password and Passphrase.
34. Enable all Virtual Office options using iManager. Take note of the default file location when you log to a file.
35. Using the VO interface, add a Bookmark and and display Team Owners.

This should keep you busy for a good bit of time. Don't be afraid to try some things that I have not listed. The more hands-on practice you have the better your chance at earning the CNA on the first go around.
